The 3 Best WiFi Mesh Routers.

Posted in Nextdaytechs Blog

Wireless coverage especially for larger homes has become indispensable. Cell Phones, security cameras, thermostats, televisions, alarms etc. they all need a strong and fast WiFi signal to connect to the Internet. Unfortunately, most of the routers are just a single device that if it’s not placed on a centralized location of the house it leaves bad WiFi spots. Running Network wiring in existing multi-story houses, and installing Access Points,  is cost prohibitive that can run $400-$500 per line.

The solution to this problem is what they call mesh routers. WiFi mesh routers they come in 2 or more devices that can replace your existing router. The first device is connected to your modem and the 2nd and 3rd etc. can be placed anywhere in the house as long as an electrical outlets is near by. Mesh routers communicate wirelessly between each other through a fixed or dynamic WiFi frequency as they cast an invisible net throughout the house.

All 3 mesh routers below can be configured through an App that you download on your phone and provide both 2.4 GHs and 5 GHz channel frequencies.

The Netgear Orbit
1. Three Bands, Dedicated, fixed 5 GHz wireless channel to communicate between each other and a 2.4GHz and 5GHs for clients
2. 4 Network ports for each router.
3. For 2 routers the coverage is 5000sf
The Linksys Velop
1. Three bands, Dynamic, variable 5 GHz wireless channel to communicate between each other and a 2.4GHz and 5GHs for clients
2. For 2 routers the coverage is 4000sf
The Google WiFi
1. Two Bands, Shares both 2.4 GHs and 5 GHs wireless channels to communicate between each other and clients.
2. For 3 routers the coverage is 4500sf

Here are some test results in terms of throughput data speeds for all 3 wireless Mesh Routers:

Type of Router One Router 50 Ft away Two Routers 70 ft away
Netgear Orbi 48 Mbps 246 Mbps
Linksys Velop 41 Mbps 333 Mbps
Google WiFi 5 Mbps 75 Mbps
