32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7?

Windows 7 64-bit has been released for almost 7 months now and the response has been great from home users but not so from small businesses.
Case in point. I was called the other day to install two new Laptops that Peter, the owner of an Escrow company, had picked up from Best Buy. After I connected the laptops to his network and started installing his SMS software an error msg came up saying that the SMS software is not compatible with the 64-bit Windows 7 OS. I called the software company and they told me that they do not have the 64-bit version of the software out yet and that is going to take some time before they do. They told me to stick either with Windows XP pro or the 32-bit Windows 7.
Lesson learned: Call your software vendors first and find out what OS they support before you buy a new PC for you business.
